Steve > While I waited for the French military to call Kirsten enjoyed some rest with Puma.
Steve > This was my companion during our 6 days inside the compound during the fighting over N'Djamena. This was our only link to the outside world but unfortunately you need to be outside to have a clear link to the Satellite.
Steve > We were loaded up with 200 liters of fuel just in case we needed to make a run for the border but the State Department kept telling us to stay put. We just received word today that the compound was not looted after our departure. I'm still trying to confirm that our truck was not stolen.
Steve > The evacuation happened fast as the French never called. Suddenly the rescue team ran through our gate securing the compound and neighboring streets. One helicopter stayed airborne while heavily armed soldiers surrounded us as we walked to another helicopter on the ground. Two soldiers hopped in to man the machine guns while the others circled around the the helicopter as we lifted off.
Steve > Once we landed we were escorted to an armored vehicle and then dropped off at the military base where we were processed. After this lengthy but smooth process we waited beneath the tree until we were taken to the C130 that would fly us to Gabon.
