Steve > So this is the field where my neighbor will plant his peanuts and millet. The sandy soil is the best it gets this close to the Sahara.
Steve > When teaching about the wheat and chaff to people in America it is normally necessary to explain the cultural significance. Here in Chad it is just a part of life. Our neighbor and language helper, Abbo, has a field about 25km outside the city where he plants peanuts but first he needed to shell two large sacks. Easy enough - we went outside his home a set out a mat in the road between our homes and used the windy day to his benefit. Only sad thing is I wanted to go with him to help plant in his field but it didn't work out. Maybe next time.
Steve > Rainbow Over Chad
July 16, 2009

We've had rain nearly every night which is a tremendous blessing for the people here. Thankfully the days are clear and sunny so our solar equipment is getting a full charge but the dry ground is getting the water it needs. If you look close you can see the faint line of a second rainbow.

The home at the center bottom is our neighbors, Abbo & Hawa. They are helping us learning Chadian Arabic and have been a blessing to us since moving into the neighborhood.

In the bottom left hand corner you'll see a small white structure. These are "little mosques" that have been built around town to train children how to pray. Though I have not seen many children praying at these they dot nearly every street corner.
Steve > Silas in motion.
Steve > Sand in the Air

If you look closely at the sky you'll notice the tan tint in contrast to the clearer section on the left. Before the rains come it is often windy which easily picks up the sand and flings in over the city, particularly, into our home.
Steve > Kirsten with her sister Kara before I took them both to the airport for their flight down to N'Djaména
Steve > Oh, Annelise enjoying Aunt Kara before she returned home to her own little sweeties.
Steve > Some boys from the local Quranic school watching us as we hiked around the hills of Abéché
Steve > Kara using my over-sized protection knife for making PB&J sandwiches.
